A self-described “mad record collector” has spun the decks inside Drayton Memorial Hall for a charity close to his heart.
Shayne Donnelly’s record fair at the weekend attracted hundreds to the hall to raise $2000 for a Trigeminal Neuralgia charity
Mr Donnelly’s sister Shelley has MS and Trigeminal Neuralgia, a rare neurological condition that causes chronic pain and sudden and severe pain to one side of the face.
“It’s basically like a lightning bolt to the face, it pretty much paralyses her in an instant,” he said.
“It can just hit at any time, and I reckon it would be one of the worst pains you could feel.”
Mr Donnelly, who has a collection of close to 10,000 vinyls at home, said he was amazed by how many people showed up to support the cause.
“Seeing the amount of people, especially the amount of young people, it was amazing,” he said.
“There was a lot of the younger generation here buying all the old stuff.
“We all know what life’s about these days and it’s full on, so to be able to sit and actually put an album on and listen to it can help in a lot of ways.”
The fair attracted music lovers of all ages.
Declan Moran and Alice Payne may not have grown up in the era of vinyl records, but the couple in their mid 20s are stepping away from streaming.
“It’s the experience of picking through things, and finding gems,” he said.
“You never know if you’re going to see it again so you got to jump on it.
“It’s more of an experience to take the record out of the sleeve, put it on and listen to it.”
Mr Donnelly said he hoped to do more fairs this year following the success on Saturday.
