Weetwood’s best dressed have revealed the secrets to their winning outfits after taking home the fashion crowns this weekend.
Currumbin Valley woman Nadine Dimitrioski and Toowoomba man Will Douglas were named the winners of the 1Equine Toowoomba Weetwood Fashions on the Field on Saturday with stiff competition from more than 40 entries.
“This outfit was created especially for Weetwood by a New Zealand designer (Mikhal Designs); we went through the design process together,” Ms Dimitrioski said.
“It was all about spring and flowers … I wanted to bring out the pink florals, it reminded me of Jacaranda.
“I love to be able to experiment with different looks, different fabrics, I try to push the envelope every time.”
No stranger to fashion competitions, Ms Dimitrioski credits her success to her hatmaker, With Grace Millinery.
“Milliners are really the unsung heroes in the fashion world,” she said.
“Mine is the key to all my outfits, because without her no outfit is complete.”
As a first-time competitor, Mr Douglas was shocked to win, only entering as an excuse to get “spruced up”.
“It was definitely a tough competition, I didn’t go in expecting to win, that’s for sure,” he said.
“I believe in ‘look good, feel good’.
“I found a suit I fell in love with and thought that might be the one.”
Toowoomba Turf Club Chair Jason Ward said turnout on the day exceeded expectations despite a morning of wet weather.
“The sun did come out after the first couple of races … the track performed well, the racing was exceptional,” he said.
“Everyone looked magnificent, the fashions are always exceptional.
“It’s great to see people put in some effort when they come to the races.”
