109 Darling Downs drivers handed fines over Xmas period
Over 100 local drivers have been caught out in a statewide target this Christmas, but why are Police happy?

MORE than 100 Darling Downs drivers were fined over the Christmas period, although the majority of drivers have been congratulated for remaining safe on our roads.
According to Queensland Police, 109 Traffic Infringement Notices were issued on Darling Downs roads between December 23 and December 27.
The majority of those related to speeding.
Fourteen people were detected drink driving, while six were detected driving under the influence of drugs.
Meanwhile, police have thanked Queenslanders who drove safely over the Christmas break with no loss of life, compared to five during the same time last year.
Queensland Police have cracked down on dangerous driving as part of Operation Tango Mistletoe.
“While the majority of motorists obeyed the rules, highway patrol officers taking part in Mistletoe continued to detect dangerous drivers on our roads,” Acting Chief Superintendent Ray Rohweder said.
“The reality is, dangerous behaviour on the road leads to damaged vehicles, lifelong injuries and loss of life.”
