From the moment Victoria Campbell, 28, and her family adopted their pet goat Gary, it was love at first sight and the pair’s bond has only strengthened over the past six years.
Rescuing the sweet animal at just 18 months old during the height of Toowoomba’s drought, Ms Campbell is now searching for a mate for her goat.
“Now that he’s a bit older, he’s calmed down a lot so we want to find Gaz a Shaz,” she said.
“We have no desire to breed him – we just want to find him a love to grow old with.”
Describing Gaz the goat as a cheeky big teddy bear, Ms Campbell said he loves laying in the sunshine and snacking on Arnott’s classic Milk Arrowroot biscuits.
Fond childhood memories spent on the family farm include when she played games with Gaz and laid down in the paddock while his head rested on her.
Unsure of his specific breed, Ms Campbell said she planned to arrange a DNA test for her pet, with suspicions Gaz had a mix of species in him.
“Gaz has grown up with our pet sharpei and developed some of her characteristics, so we’re pretty sure he thinks he’s a dog,” she said.
“He tries to come inside through the dog door but can’t fit … although he managed to sneak into our house once – he didn’t destroy anything and was just sitting beside my parent’s bed like a dog.”
While Ms Campbell and her family have already met with a few candidates, they believe they haven’t yet found Gaz’s perfect pair.
Still on the hunt for the lucky lady to wed the loving goat weighing in at 55kg, Ms Campbell is open to first date ideas but liked the sound of a candlelight dinner – with Arrowroot biscuits on the menu of course.
