Toowoomba’s quirkiest pet has been revealed and Bruce the goat is anything but baa-shful about it.
The Chronicle recently asked readers to vote for which animal most deserved the title, and Bruce won by a landslide.
When his initial owners had to relocate two years ago, they asked around to find Bruce a new forever home, and his current owner Craig Smith was all too happy to oblige.
“A lot of people have offered to buy him over the years, but I always tell them no – he’s our pet and he’s part of the family,” Mr Smith said.
The four-year-old goat is full of personality, has a very cheeky side and thinks he’s a dog dressed in goat’s clothing.
“We’ve got six acres here for him to run around and play on and he loves to play with our pet kelpie,” Mr Smith said.
“He does a lot of tricks – he’ll stand up, likes to sneak up on people and headbutt them and he even wags his tail when he’s happy.”
While Bruce doesn’t take to everyone, he has a special bond with Mr Smith and will often follow him around the paddock.
Living on a diet of grains, grass and occasionally bread, Mr Smith said his quirky pet was also great for keeping the yard trimmed and maintained.
When it comes to how they picked the name, Mr Smith said his daughter Tamarha Dimmack had come across a few “quirky characters” named Bruce over the years, so the name fitted.
