A 24-YEAR-OLD mother of two who had been held in the Toowoomba watch house since last weekend has failed to regain her liberty when she was refused bail.
Stevie-Lee Robertson was taken into custody last weekend after being charged with burglary, stealing, four counts of unlawful using motor vehicles, possessing a drug utensil and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.
Police objected to her bail application on a number of grounds including that the 24-year-old was a risk of re-offending while on bail.
Duty lawyer Amber Acreman, of David Burns Lawyers, brought a bail application on her behalf before Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
Ms Acreman said while the Crown case on some of the charges would appear strong, there seemed to be no evidence to tie her client to the burglary.
She said it was clear her client had some substance abuse issues and needed supervision.
Her client's child was living with family in Highfields and her client could reside with them while on remand, she said.
Robertson was due back in court on other matters on Monday and until then her client would abide by a curfew, Ms Acreman submitted.
However, Magistrate Howard Osborne was no convinced.
He said, in the material before him it was reported that Robertson had told police she had been homeless and couch surfing of late and questioned whether she could abide by bail conditions.
Mr Osborne refused bail and remanded Robertson in custody and adjourned all matters for mention back in the same court on Monday.
