A man who was hit by a car south of Toowoomba on Tuesday night remains in a critical, but stable condition in hospital, as police continue to search for the vehicle responsible.
The man in his 50s suffered life-threatening head injuries after he was hit on the corner of Windermere Drive and Hazelmere Court, at Hodgson Vale, south of Toowoomba, on New Year’s Eve.
He was transported by ambulance to the Toowoomba hospital before being flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
The man remains in a critical, but stable condition, a spokeswoman from the hospital said on Thursday.
Several emergency crews responded to the incident in what appeared to be a hit and run, a police spokesman said.
One resident told The Chronicle that he heard cars heading up the street at the time the man was struck before hearing the sirens of emergency crews arriving on the scene.
Another said they heard a group of people in the street at the time of the incident and heard one yell for someone to call for an ambulance and police.
One neighbour also said they heard a car revving up Windermere Drive at around 9pm on Tuesday night.
It is believed the man is a local from the area.
No arrests have been made.
Police are still trying to locate the vehicle responsible and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
Investigations are ongoing.
