Fruit comes in all shapes and sizes and as young people across the region have discovered through a series of workshops, so does their interpretation of art.
Toowoomba art studio Tinker has held several sessions for kids over the summer school holidays with the latest centred around self-expression and fruit.
Art teacher AJ Gogas said the classes encouraged individualism by painting a selection of different fruits with facial expressions on canvas.
“This class is all about developing our (fruit) characters through layers by diffusing different textures and vibrancy together to create a finished artwork,” she said.
“Personally, I love working in a studio where everyone is encouraged to be their unique selves … it’s my dream job and even though I’m the teacher, the kids teach me.”
Studio regular Skye Middleton-Kailola, 6, said her painting included a sleepy strawberry, upset pear, very happy pineapple and shocked cherries.
Despite watermelons and rockmelons being her favourite fruits because “they’re juicy” she said she draws them all the time and wanted to be a bit more adventurous.
Meanwhile first-time visitor Alfie Benventi, 6, said he planned to gift his artwork which features lots of avocados, to his mum and dad.
Alfie said he was happy to be in the art class instead of school because he could mostly “do whatever” he wanted.
Traeger Avery, 6, said the watermelon which starred in his painting was smiling because it was “happy it hasn’t been eaten yet.”
