ROADWORKS for a new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Glenvale Rd and Hampton St has begun, with motorists expecting delays and detours for about eight weeks, weather permitting.

The intersection will be closed in early May, before re-opening with a partial road closure until completion in June.

The area will also have reduced speed conditions as a safety measure during construction.

Toowoomba Regional Council Infrastructure Services General Manager Mike Brady said motorists should use alternative routes where possible.

"Council will work closely with surrounding residents and business owners to limit inconvenience wherever possible," he said.

"Council would like to thank residents and motorists in advance for their patience during this period."

The roundabout is part of the Federal Government's Black Spot Program.

The Hampton St and Glenvale Rd intersection will become a single lane roundabout at a total cost of $550,000.

Mr Brady said the project was fully funded under the Federal Government's Black Spot Program and council expected "improved traffic flow and enhanced safety" at the intersection following completion.
