Former Premier Peter Gutwein has shown off his ripped post-politics physique in an Instagram post.
In a video entitled “Peter’s 12-week transformation” Mr Gutwein extols the virtues of Launceston-based “mens’ transformation specialist” Tom Cleary.
Mr Gutwein resigned as premier and left politics in April 2022, saying he has “nothing left in the tank”.
But he says after 12 weeks of working out, he’s fitter than he was 30 years ago.
“My resting heart rate is down, blood pressure is fantastic, and my GP tells me that my blood work is on a par with a fit 25 to 30-year-old,” he said.
“Strength is up 15 per cent, body weight’s down 10 per cent.
“I’m stronger and lighter, more active and any everyday tasks are a breeze.
“I built just under an hour of serious me time into my day, and this has helped my overall well-being enormously.
“When I set the goal to become healthier, fitter and one of the fittest 59-year-olds in the country, I never expected to begin the year I turned 60 in better shape than when I was 30”.
Mr Gutwein caused a minor sensation when he was premier when he bared a large panther tattoo while receiving his Covid shot. He explained it was to commemorate achieving his black belt in tae kwon do.
In a 2022 article in Australian Men’s Health magazine, Mr Gutwein said he’d set himself the goal of becoming the fittest 57-year-old in the country.
He revealed his daily routine included 200 push-ups and his weight had dropped from 86.5kg to 79.5kg.
