Tasmania’s impact on the information communication technology sector punches above its weight, according to experts speaking at the state’s premier ICT conference next week.
The average person on the street may not recognise Tasmania’s prevalence and impact in the information communications technology sector, Senior executive at Intuit Technologies Heath Roberts said.
The national tech solutions company was born here in Tasmania but now has a presence across much of the Eastern Seaboard, and more than 150 employees.
“There’s not a government agency, private entity or business that’s of scale in Tasmania that we’re not involved with in some way,” Mr Roberts said.
He said Tasmania has a “great impact” on the technology sector and he was looking forward to having major industry players in the state to discuss the latest tech industry and workforce developments, advancements in artificial intelligence and more.
Mr Roberts will take to the stage and speak about the technology trends emerging in 2025 and what executives working in tech should be aware of.
The conference is being opened by billionaire eco start-up founders Cameron Adams and Lisa Miller who are set to shine a light on the unique qualities of ‘Tassie Tech’ which increasingly uses Tasmania’s clean and green reputation to pioneer technology and projects that can help solve some of the world’s most pressing problems.
Mr Cameron is also the co-founder of online graphic program Canva, which has expanded from humble beginnings in Perth, WA to a worldwide phenomenon with more than 170 million active monthly users in 2025.
Mr Adams and Ms Miller launched the eco-tech start-up Wedgetail, which finances nature-positive endeavours to accelerate land regeneration.
Wedgetail aims to inspire land regeneration and contribute to the Global Biodiversity Framework’s ‘30x30’ Target which calls for the protection of 30 per cent of the world’s land, waters and seas by 2030.
TasICT’s Tas Tech Fest is a one-day free conference at Wrest Point Convention Centre on 26 March. Registration is essential http://www.tasict.com.au
