Plans for a new state-of-the-art driving range and minigolf course have been unveiled at Launceston’s Country Club Tasmania as part of an overhaul of golfing facilities at the site.

The redevelopment is designed to make the Country Club a mecca for golf, attracting both interstate and locals alike, as well as complementing the existing golf course at the site, which is undergoing a $14m course redesign, Federal Group said in a statement.

The proposal is estimated to cost in excess of $5m, will create jobs for 55 people during construction and sees a driving range as well as a mini golf course with dining facilities and improved parking.

It coincides with the redevelopment of the golf course at the Country Club, with nine of the 18 holes currently being remade, with completion of the entire course’s remodelling expected by mid-2025.

Federal Group spokesman, Greg Farrell Jr, said the Country Club had always been known for its golf and the addition of the driving range and mini golf would complement the existing facilities.

“As the name suggests, the Country Club is all about relaxing and enjoying a laid-back lifestyle, so what better way to enjoy a bit of leisure, than a round of minigolf and a bit of a hit on the driving range,” Mr Farrell said.

“We have developed this to not only capture the golf tourist, who may be in the state to enjoy one of the many great courses in Tasmania, but also the local who wants to have a bit of a hit over the weekend.”

Mr Farrell said it was hoped once the development received the appropriate approvals, it would employ some 20 people and be completed by February next year.

Parallel to the golfing investment, Federal Group is undertaking an enormous, 372-lot residential subdivision on the 44ha site of the Country Club.

Stages 1 and 2 of an eventual 10 stages have hit the market, with future plans for the estate including a gated retirement community, a central 1.25ha park with amenities including toilets and barbecues, and a 1.8km bush trail.

Stage 3, the Village, “is expected to be released in mid to late next year, with more details then,” a Federal Group spokesman said.

Federal Group continues to work on a new masterplan to guide future development of the Country Club over the next 7–10 years, Federal Group executive general manager Daniel Hanna previously told the Mercury.
