One of the most significant residential and lifestyle developments in northern Tasmania’s history is gathering pace, with ground broken on the second stage of what will eventually be a 372-lot estate.
The 44ha Country Club Estate at Prospect Vale’s Country Club Tasmania, owned by the Federal Group, will gradually take shape over the next seven to 10 years.
Parallel to construction of the estate, a $14m upgrade of the club’s golf course is due for completion in late 2024 or early 2025, to bring it up to “championship standard”.
Federal Group is strongly considering a driving range and mini golf of a “standard not seen before in Tasmania” as part of the upgrade, Federal Group executive general manager Daniel Hanna said.
Mr Hanna said he believed the course upgrade would see Country Club spoken about in the same breath as Barnbougle Dunes and Lost Farm.
Federal Group is currently working on a new masterplan to guide future development of Country Club, Mr Hanna said, with the course redevelopment and residential estate just the tip of the iceberg.
Mr Hanna said the 372-lot residential estate was dreamt up during Covid after Federal Group partnered with Kin Capital, which partners with private capital “by investing in strategic real estate opportunities”.
Stage 1, featuring 17 premium blocks adjacent to the golf course, known as ‘The Greens’, was quickly snapped up after its listing pre-Christmas.
Stage 2, ‘The Reserve’, will see an additional 44 lots hit the market within the next six weeks.
Later stages will include a central 1.25ha park with amenities including toilets and barbecues and 1.8km bush trail, suitable for walking, cycling and horse riding.
There are expected to be 10 stages in total.
Included in a later stage is provision for a gated retirement community.
“We like to think in 10 years time, this will be an outstanding lifestyle community,” Mr Hanna said.
“Great facilities with the best of both worlds, rural vistas with living and services you’d expect in the city.”
Harcouts Launceston project sales agent David Hernyk said the “bulk” of the estate would be at the more “affordable” end of the market, with the estate expected to pull a mix of demographics including young families.
He said spec home builders such as Wilson Homes were very interested in the development and were expected to deliver some of the new stock.
