Suzi Taylor: Ex-Block contestant guilty of trespass, assault after bizarre Southport incident

The defendant, a former model who rose to prominence on the 2015 season of The Block, stormed a Southport residence in company with another and assaulted the occupant. Here’s why she did it.

Fallen reality television star Suzi Taylor has admitted to assaulting a woman at her Southport home in the belief some of her property had been left there prior to her 50-day jail stint last year for evading police.

Ms Taylor, 54, whose legal name is Suellen Jan Taylor, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday where she pleaded guilty to charges of trespass, common assault, and stealing, all committed at Baretta St, Southport, on the evening of October 5 last year, just days after she finished serving a 50-day sentence for evading police.

The trespass charge had been negotiated down from the more serious charge of enter premises to commit an indictable offence.

Police prosecutor Corey Cook told the court Taylor and a co-defendant attended the address at about 7.55pm.

They accessed a locked security gate and knocked on the front door, where a woman of Nepalese origin answered.

The defendant demanded to know, “Where’s Jimmy?”, and the occupant shut the door, but Taylor and the other person opened it and stormed inside.

Mr Cook said Taylor seized the occupant’s mobile phone and began ransacking the place while the co-defendant kept watch at the front door.

Taylor went to leave the property with the occupant’s phone and a shopping bag full of stolen possessions, followed by the occupant, who pleaded for her phone back.

Taylor pushed the woman in the chest and decamped with the co-defendant, leaving the phone behind but taking the shopping bag of possessions.

Mr Cook told the court Taylor’s criminal history, which consisted mostly of minor drug and property offences, was indicative of someone with substance misuse issues.

Defence lawyer Michael Gatenby told the court his client’s connection to the address was that she had left possessions in the care of the aforementioned Jimmy prior to her serving 50 days’ imprisonment for evading police last August.

He said Taylor was provoked when the occupant produced her phone, which had its torch light on, and pointed it at his client.

This triggered her, Mr Gatenby said, as his client had previously been “set-up” by a woman who allegedly provoked a confrontation with Taylor in order to provide the footage to Channel 9 program A Current Affair.

Mr Gatenby said his client’s life had fallen apart since the ACA program aired.

“She has fallen so far from being a person who enjoyed some real successes,” he said.

She had become homeless “as a consequence of the Channel 9 matters” and was only just now putting her life back together, which involved seeking professional help and “doing some administrative work”.

Magistrate Bentley fined Taylor $750 and ordered her to pay the complainant $500 compensation.

The court heard Taylor has 23 unrelated charges still before the courts, most seriously drug trafficking.

Those charges were adjourned to April 1.

Ms Taylor first rose to prominence in 2015 when she starred as a contestant on home renovation reality TV show The Block (she and friend.

Latterly, Ms Taylor earned a crust as a “high-class escort”, having earlier this millennia worked as a model who had a series of bit parts in films, most notably a raunchy scene in 2003 cult-classic Gettin’ Square.
