A 28-YEAR-OLD man who sped away from a police road-side testing site, forcing three officers to jump out of the way, has been jailed.
Tyron Bruce Sattler had pulled into the stop site on the Warrego Hwy at Charlton about 10.30pm, December 16, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
Having given the name "Paul George Sattler", police became suspicious when that name and birth date didn't come up on their computer and Sattler was asked to turn off the vehicle's engine.
He instead sped off east on the highway through a red traffic light and crossing onto the wrong side the road as he drove away, police prosecutor Sergeant Mike Robinson said.
The next day he had again sped away when police at Wandoan spotted his car.
However, he was taken into custody on December 18 when he returned to Wandoan.
Sattler appeared by prison video link to plead guilty to charges arising from those incidents as well as to unlawfully using a motor vehicle taken from a Brisbane address on November 27, his fingerprints found inside the car eventually found abandoned near Goombungee; and to possessing $2200 suspected tainted property found during a police search of his home on December 10.
His solicitor Brad Skuse told the court his client used to work in the gas industry but had lost his job when he started using drugs.
His client hoped to get a job on the Sunshine Coast upon his release, he said.
Magistrate Graham Lee declared five months Sattler had spent in custody since his arrest as time served and sentenced him to 12 months in jail but ordered he be released on parole forthwith.
