A Victoria man has been arrested in SA – but not before he allegedly led police on a wild chase from the CBD all the way to the Riverland.
Police said the man was first spotted in SA driving a white BMW in the city, on Thursday about 2.30am.
They said they attempted to stop the car, but it kept driving – heading north on Churchill Rd, Kilburn.
An hour later, police said the car was spotted on Sturt Highway, Nuriootpa travelling at 129km/h in a 80km/h zone.
Police, along with Polair, attended West Boundary Rd at Wunkar, to try and stop the driver, but again he took off, they said, reaching speeds of 170km/h.
According to police, the man was eventually seen dumping the car and entering a property in Wunkar where he allegedly confronted the occupants and demanded the keys of their Toyota HiLux.
Police said he then took the HiLux, which he drove at dangerously high speeds through back roads, before he came to the intersection of Cameron and Brown Wells highways at Paruna.
There, he lost control of the vehicle at the intersection and rolled the car, police said.
The Victorian man attempted to run from the HiLux but was located a short time later and was arrested, police said.
A 31-year-old Victorian man was charged with dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit, illegal use of motor vehicle, serious criminal trespass, theft, driving at a dangerous speed, and other driving offences.
He was refused police bail and will appear in Berri Magistrates Court on Friday May 23.
