Temperatures drop around South Australia as Adelaide records coldest morning of the year

Adelaide has felt the chill of its coldest morning for 2025, but the weekend is set to bring something a little more unseasonal.

Adelaide experiences ‘coldest September morning’ on record

Adelaide has woken up to brave the coldest morning of the year so far – but the trend won’t continue into the weekend with an unusual burst of sunshine on Sunday.

Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Mark Anolak confirmed the cold truth, revealing Adelaide dropped to a chilly 7.4C at 4am, marking the coldest night of this year.

“It was the coldest morning this year in Adelaide,” Mr Anolak told The Advertiser.

“The overnight minimum temperatures were quite cold across parts of the state, particularly the Lower South East as there were a number of places that got below 3C that way, with Keith being the coldest going down to 1.3C.

“And even across the Eyre Peninsula temperatures sat around the 4C mark with some parts dropping to about 2.5C.”

Mr Anolak warned the chilly overnight temperatures will continue.

“Pretty much the same conditions we experienced last night will occur again tonight,” he said.

“The temperatures will drop to low single figures across the state.”

However, as we approach the weekend, temperatures will rise bringing in some late autumn warmth.

In Adelaide, Saturday is forecast to be 25C with mostly clear and sunny conditions, while Sunday is expected to hit an unseasonally warm 27C.

In the north, Nuriootpa will also catch some sunshine with temperatures expecting to continually rise from Thursday into the weekend – with the rest of today forecast to be 19C, then 21C on Friday, 22C on Saturday and 25C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in Aldinga it is much of the same with Thursday expected to sit at a comfortable 20C, then Friday reaching 22C and Saturday climbing to 24C before Sunday hits 26C.
