Furious customers left with half finished homes have opened up about “two years of hell” after a South Australian construction company had its licence suspended.

Dozens of Seven Star construction customers have been left in the lurch and waiting more than two years to have their new homes completed.

Now they face an uncertain future after the builder had its licence suspended by Consumer and Business Services.

The suspension came after dozens of customer complaints over significant delays on projects at Modbury and Plympton, with 27 homes left unfinished.

One customer, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Advertiser, she had purchased a house and land package at Gillman – but no work had been done on the property in two years, despite being given a completion date of October last year.

“It’s been two years of hell and we have nothing to show for it,” she said.

“It came to the finish date in October 2022 and they had done nothing.

“All they had done was cleared the land and brought more infill to put down.

“But they left the infill for so long that weeds started growing on it.

“Nothing was happening. We had made expectations of when we were going to move into the house.

“It was really sad for us.”

The customer said she had been forced to buy another home to live in while the project dragged on.

“To get out of the contract it has been equally challenging,” she said.

“After a lot of hounding, calling every day, we got our deposit back and were able to break the contract.

“We owned the land but the bank doesn’t release payment until they do certain stages.

“We were lucky.

“Not everyone will have had that though and would have been on combined contracts.

“That was our saving grace.”

In a statement to 7News, Seven Star Construction owner Qamil Veseli said he felt bad for his customers.

“Everything has gone out of control, at the moment we’re under big pressure,” he said

Seven Star Construction customer Zara Sanders said she had signed a contract to build her first home, a townhouse at Modbury, in 2020 but construction stopped in 2021 and Mr Veseli had provided no answers.

“He hasn’t really been answering people’s calls, there’s not really much communication happening from his end,” she told 7 News.

“At the end of the day, I just want to live in my dream home.”

Consumer and Business Services regulation and advice director Fraser Stroud told 7News they would continue to engage with the company.

“As a consequence of that we will move to the next stage when appropriate,” he said.
