More flights have been cancelled this evening, but it’s otherwise smooth sailing at Adelaide Airport with no major delays. Follow our rolling coverage.

Flights cancelled from Adelaide Airport as travel chaos hits (7NEWS)

Eleven inbound and outbound flights have been cancelled as Adelaide Airport tackles its biggest travel day since the pandemic kicked off.

Two flights to Sydney – a Jetstar flight scheduled to take off at 5.30pm and a Virgin Australia one scheduled for 7.45pm – have been scrapped, but it is otherwise relatively smooth sailing for school holidaymakers.

An Adelaide Airport spokesperson said security was going “full steam” and there had been no major delays on the first day of school holidays.

Here’s the latest on what you need to know if you’re taking off by air or road this weekend.

ROADWORKS SET TO CAUSE DELAYS

The Port Wakefield overpass and highway duplication works are still being undertaken around the clock. Roads in both directions in the town are operating at reduced speeds. There are other roadworks still taking place on the Augusta Hwy north of Port Wakefield.

Ongoing works on the South Eastern Freeway are also expected to cause small delays when the after-school and afternoon peak hour travellers hit the road later today.

Anyone planning on an outback trek are encouraged to check the latest on open, restricted and closed unsealed roads before departing, with cautions in place for a number of trails up north.

The Innamincka Causeway in the state’s northeast is expected to remain closed for the next few weeks as floodwaters from the Warburton River enter Lake Eyre.

A flood warning is currently in place for the Warburton River and Cooper Creek.

DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

A staggering number of flight cancellations on Wednesday could be a sign for what’s to come for domestic travellers.

More than 100,000 passengers are expected to stream through the gates of Adelaide Airport in the four days from Friday to Monday.

Passengers are being urged to arrive two hours before their flight for domestic travel and three hours for international departures.
