Richard Vinall, a swimmer who was attacked by a shark at Port Noarlunga on Thursday, remains in a critical but stable condition.
Aged in his 60s and from Hackham, Mr Vinall was taking his regular morning swim near the jetty when bitten on the leg, just before 10am.
He is now at Flinders Medical Centre where he is being treated for injuries to his thigh.
Mr Vinall was helped from the water and treated at the scene by paramedics and MedSTAR before he was taken to hospital.
An open-water diver said the attack happened between the shore and the popular Port Noarlunga Reef.
“When we surfaced we saw the emergency vehicles here, we were told to come in,” he told 7NEWS.
“A couple had gone out and the woman had come back in, had heard her partner screaming, and as far as I know, either she went back out to help him or the surf lifesaving club came out.
One of the man’s neighbours, who asked for his name not to be published, said Mr Vinall swam regularly and he was shocked by the news.
The neighbour said he was in a motorbike riding group with Mr Vinall, who was also a regular walker.
He said Mr Vinall liked a chat and was a “a good bloke and a nice guy”.
