A top private junior school in Adelaide’s south would construct a new “contemporary, co-located learning environment” in an effort to ease increasing enrolment demands.

St John the Apostle Parish School, in Christies Beach, would house an extra seven general learning areas and one specialist learning area for performing arts and languages under the plan – with the facilities centred around an internal courtyard.

Principal Leanne Johansen said the proposed development was an exciting step forward for the school.

“Over the past few years, we have seen a strong growth in enrolments,” Ms Johansen said.

“We are excited to be planning this next stage of development which will provide us with greater flexibility in our learning spaces.”

St John’s, who in recent years have been tackling a demand in enrolment, is a catholic coeducational school catering for Reception to Year 6 students.

To combat the increase, the school is now proposing to build a dedicated junior primary school precinct to cater for specialist learning areas.

The development will accommodate existing students, with an increase of just 11 expected over the next eight to 10 years.

The number of full time staff will remain at 32 until at least the end of 2032.

Submissions are open until August 20.
