A “lonely” southern suburbs man has been jailed after attempting to lure a 14-year-old girl to Mount Barker so they could “get pizza and watch porn” together, a court has heard.
Paul Andrew Fenemer, 57, appeared in the District Court last month for sentencing after pleading guilty to nine counts of communication for a prurient purpose with the intention of making a child amenable to sexual activity.
Judge Liesl Kudelka said Fenemer, of Morphett Vale, met the girl – actually an undercover police officer – on the Chat IW platform, before suggesting to move the conversation to Snapchat.
“You engaged in sexually explicit conversation with her, including asking her if she would like you to teach her about sex and if she would get a day off to go to your place,” Judge Kudelka said.
“From the outset, you expressed the desire to meet up with the victim. For example, you told her that you could teach her how to do sexual things properly. You stated your intention to turn her from a shy girl to a confident woman. The plan to meet was further discussed … with some very explicit statements by you about the sexual nature of what would happen.
“You said you would get her pizza and you could watch pornography together.”
Fenemer first engaged in contact with the girl on March 18, 2024, and regularly talked to her until his eventual arrest on April 12 the next month.
Following his arrest, police found a “blister pack” of Viagra in the pocket of his driver’s side car door – with one pill missing.
They also located an iPad at his home, which included search history “demonstrating a prurient interest” in school girls.
During sentencing, Judge Kudelka noted Fenemer’s behaviour was, in part, due to loneliness, alcohol use and “a desire for excitement and validation”.
“Your communications online over those three weeks are a perfect example of the parent’s worst nightmare that I have described,” Judge Kudelka said.
“You inveigled your way into the life of what you thought was a 14-year-old schoolgirl, made very explicit sexual conversation with her and arranged to meet up with her.
“Not only were they (the messages) sexually explicit, but they were considerably focused upon arranging to meet the victim in person, and you did meet her, it just turned out that she was, in fact, a police officer.”
“It is very fortunate that the police duped you and caught you in the process of arranging to meet up with a child you believed was a schoolgirl.”
Fenemer was jailed for three years, one month and 13 days with a non-parole period of two years, five months and 29 days.
The sentence was backdated to April 12, 2024 – when he was arrested and remanded in custody.
