Social media users have blasted a man an “utter scumbag” after he was busted taking $170 worth of groceries from the front doorstep of a home in Adelaide’s south.
Posting to the Hallett Cove and Surrounds Community Watch page, Eliza Bolton shared footage showing the man – dressed in shorts, a white T-shirt and a distinctive bucket hat – taking a Woolworths order that had been left by her front door.
In the video, a white ute can be seen stopping at the front of the woman’s property before the man gets out and casually walks towards the bags of shopping, which had been left by the front door.
Without checking the contents of the bags, he picks them up and walks back to the car.
“I was inside the house with my baby and opened the door two minutes after he left,” Ms Bolton wrote.
“If you recognise this guy and have any information please let me know.
“It’s been reported to police.”
Flocking to the comments section, social media users were quick to blast the man’s actions.
“What a miserable low life,” one user commented.
“Utter scumbag,” said another.
Others offered sympathy to Ms Bolton.
“Too bad if it had nappies or formula you really needed,” one user posted
“Sorry this has happened to you.”
Some users speculated the man may have been following the distinctive Woolworths delivery van.
“I suspect … he already knew those bags were there,” one man said.
“If you were driving normally you wouldn’t spot them in passing and be able to stop in such a short distance.”
A spokesperson for Woolworths said the incident had been reported “to us and also the police, who are looking into the matter”.
“The customer’s order has been reissued,” they said.
