More videos emerge of teenage Port Augusta school ‘fight club’ as shopper bashed in unprovoked attack

Students have filmed another vicious attack on a girl at school – despite her parents warning teachers – as Port Augusta’s disturbing ‘fight club’ is revealed.

Mia Coulthard, 13, allegedly bashed by girl at Port Augusta Secondary School

The father of a Port Augusta Secondary School student who was the victim of a vicious attack on school grounds has called on authorities to do more to stop the violence between children in the area.

Mia Coulthard, 13, a Port Augusta Secondary School student, was attacked by a fellow student on Tuesday, with the fight captured on video and circulated on social media.

In the horrific video, obtained by The Advertiser, Mia is seen walking up to another girl, who grabs Mia’s hair and starts aggressively punching her in the stomach.

The girls continue to fight, with the other girl throwing Mia on to the asphalt. Multiple students become involved in the incident, with many continuing to punch Mia and pulling her by the hair along the ground.

Her parents, Damian Coulthard and Melissa Amos, said they warned the school about a potential fight on Monday after hearing it might take place, and are “disgusted” by the incident. “It’s pretty frustrating … I warned them (the school) and they assured me they were going to put things in place,” Mr Coulthard said.

Disturbing videos emerge of teen fights in Port Augusta

Mr Coulthard is calling on the police and the education department to stop the violence between children at Port Augusta.

“It’s gonna take for someone to get really, really hurt before anything will happen … my kid’s already been hurt,” he said.

Mr Coulthard said Mia had been subjected to multiple incidents of violence, all of which she and her family had reported to police.

He said messages had been circulating on social media from people threatening to “bash” his daughter.

On Friday, an SA Police spokesman said they were investigating the incident.

“Police were called to Port Augusta High School about 1.40pm on Tuesday February 7, in regards to a fight between students,” the spokesman said. “Officers obtained details and are investigating the matter.”

A spokesman for the Department of Education said the school had a “zero tolerance for bullying and violence, and took immediate action with the students and families involved. And also reported it to SAPOL”.

The school has suspended both students.

“The school takes safety seriously, including security, and will receive a new full-time onsite mental health specialist, to support further preventive measures.”

The Coulthards’ lawyer, Osker Linde from Linde & Associates, said he was “deeply sickened” by the footage and believed there were “questions to be asked of Port Augusta Secondary School and the police”.

This fight comes after more footage has emerged of teen violence in the regional town of Port Augusta.

The Advertiser has uncovered videos of various youth engaging in what appear to be planned fights, with more likely in circulation online. Several Instagram accounts show various fights, including students in school uniform.

There are also multiple personal accounts using the “highlights” function to share videos of more violence. Some of the accounts appear to belong to youth based in Port Augusta.

The problem appears to extend across the state with other Instagram pages, whose owners are based in Adelaide, also sharing similar content.

One video shows a young girl attacked from behind as a friend yelled “stop, stop, what did she do?”.

Another shows a group of teenagers readying their phones as two boys shape up.

It is understood there are two accounts linked to the videos.

Innocent shopper bashed in attack at Port Augusta supermarket

It comes as a video has been circulated of a targeted and unprovoked attack on an innocent shopper in the area.

Two youths can be seen approaching a woman in a Woolworths supermarket, one saying “bash the s*** girl, bash her” as her friend pulls the victim to the ground by her hair.

The victim was repeatedly punched and kicked while on her knees in front of terrified onlookers, including children.

The victim, Jessica Burk suffered cuts, bruises and memory loss, however the mental trauma has taken the greatest toll.

“I can’t go down to the shop at Woolies, Coles or Big W,” Ms Burk told 9News.

“I need someone with me because I’m too scared because those attackers will be after me and I know they will.

“I can’t walk down the street because people are laughing.”

It appears the same attacker has been captured in similar videos uploaded to social media, likely part of a trend of social media fight clubs in Port Augusta.

It is understood there are two accounts linked to the videos.

South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said it was a “very complex” situation.

“It is an offence to incite an offence, so if people are actively engaging in an activity that encourages other people to commit a crime then they can be held accountable for that,” Mr Stevens said.

However, Port Augusta residents said they are not seeing any accountability, claiming teenagers are released on bail after being charged.

“These days it’s just a slap on the wrist and send you on your way,” Ms Burk’s partner said.

“So the system has just gone backwards.”

On Friday, SA Police said the videos identified in the far north are being investigated including links between individual videos.

When asked about the community’s concerns, a spokesperson said every situation presented to the bail authority is considered on an individual basis.

“As the bail authority under the Bail Act, police will determine that there is sufficient information provided whereby there is confidence that a juvenile charged would be under the guidance of a suitable surety and appear in court as required to do so by the bail agreement,” the spokesperson said.

Port Augusta Council Mayor Linley Shine said anything to do with violence is unacceptable and should be dealt with through the appropriate channels.

The Education Department and the Education Minister have been contacted for comment.

It comes as two teenage girls have been arrested in connection with an assault in the area on Wednesday.

Just before 6.30pm, police were called to the swim centre on Hannagan St and allege two teenage girls attacked another girl of the same age.

The victim, a 15-year-old local girl, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The two 15-year-old suspects, from Stirling North and Port Augusta were charged with assault.

The local girl was bailed to appear in Port Augusta Youth Court in April, while the Stirling North girl will appear in March.

Police say the incident is not random and there is no indication it is linked to the social media videos.
