Dozens of diehard Gracie Abrams fans braved the cold to camp outside the Entertainment Centre overnight to secure their spot in line ahead of her sold-out show on Tuesday.
Among them were friends Jacqui Watters, Talia Field, Eloise Vanderwaals and Tahlia De Nobrega, all 20, who camped out overnight in a tent after travelling from Melbourne on Monday.
“We had tents which was a privilege because some people didn’t,” Ms Field said.
“It was freezing, it was very, very cold,” Ms Watters said.
Ms De Nobrega said the group “misjudged the size” of their tent but “made do.”
The group, who are from Sydney, have been travelling around the country for the tour with Tuesday’s show being the seventh Ms Watters has attended.
“I’ve been listening to Gracie since 2019, she’s one of my favourite artists,” she said.
“I just love all of her songs (and) her live is just so incredible.”
It isn’t the first time the girls have camped out for a gig with the group also camping out for Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Tate McCrae.
“We do it for a lot of artists as well, like, we love to do it, barricade is our thing,” Ms De Nobrega said.
“Once you get to the barricade for the first time, you can’t go back. It’s a lifestyle,” Ms Field said.
On Tuesday morning, the pavement outside the venue was covered with sweet messages and chalk drawings for the singer, including “Adelaide loves you, Gracie!” and bows which have become an unofficial motif for the star.
Fans also wrote down their favourite lyrics by Abrams, who is known for her raw and emotional songwriting.
“Her lyrics are just really relatable and her fanbase is so welcoming,” Adelaide fan Kaytie Formby said.
The 22-year-old has been camping outside the Entertainment Centre since Sunday and couldn’t wait to see her idol.
“It’s been pretty chill, there’s been lots of people around so it’s been pretty safe,” she said.
Like many others, it was far from Ms Formby’s first time camping out for a gig.
“This is my second home,” she said.
“Its so worth it.”
With many big artists often skipping Adelaide, Ms name said Abrams coming to Adelaide “made us feel loved.”
The American singer-songwriter touched down in Adelaide on Monday and stopped to take selfies with fans at Adelaide Airport while donning a baseball cap with a pin reading: I’m on vocal rest.
Adelaide fan Margarida Badcock was among a small group who greeted Abrams at the airport.
She said the singer was “super nice”, stopping to pose for photos against her security team’s wishes.
“We brought her some Australian snacks like Tim Tams, lamingtons and shapes,” she said.
“She was on vocal rest and she said that. She said hello and thank you for the gift. It was super quick.
“She was very patient with us as well which was sweet.”
