A four-year-old child has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car near a public park in Plympton Park on Sunday morning.

However, SA Police said the child’s injuries “are not considered life threatening’’.

Multiple emergency services were called to the scene on South Tce outside the recreational ground after the incident, which occurred about 10.40am.

Home security footage of the incident showed the boy’s father riding across the street, and the boy a short distance behind when the taxi made a ride-hand turn into Macklin St when the vehicle struck him.

The footage, obtained by 7NEWS, show the boy’s father then run to the scene and check on the child – who was knocked from his bike – then turn on the driver.

Passengers told the network the boy’s father allegedly yelled at the driver and pushed him into a fence.

The taxi’s windscreen was shattered when it was towed from the scene.

Jason Gonzaoez was a passenger in the taxi and told the network “it all happened so quickly”.

South Terrace was closed between Park Terrace and Ferry Ave for several hours while Major Crash Investigators attended the scene and helped with the investigation.

“He was really mad, like he started grabbing the taxi driver and pushing them up against the fence,” he said.

Police said the 51-year-old driver assisted with inquiries, and was not injured in the incident.

No charges had been laid to any parties last night.

The boy was rushed to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A bicycle was seen lying on the footpath at the corner of Macklin St and South Terrace, with a taxi minibus stopped in the middle of the intersection.

It is understood the boy was riding his bike with his father when the incident occurred.

The U11 Plympton Bulldogs v Goodwood Saints was called off after 10 minutes because of the crash.

Playing officials mutually agreed to abandon the game and the players left the field to the dressing sheds.

The later game, the U15 Plympton Bulldogs v Payneham Falcons, started without incident.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have dashcam footage, that has not come forward, to contact police on Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
