Chef Adam White, accused of manufacturing meth at Camden Park home, wins bail as drug case delayed by 12 months

A chef accused of cooking up 5kg of meth in his unit is back in court, which heard police were seeking a year-long delay in his case.

A North Adelaide chef charged with cooking meth has been granted bail after prosecutors flagged a lengthy delay to the case.

Adam White, 37, was refused bail in March but on Thursday Chief Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal said he would be able to leave custody after prosecution sought a 12-month delay to the matter for a certificate of analysis.

Mr White, who worked as a chef at Fare and Square cafe, has been accused of manufacturing 5kg of meth in his home.

A certificate of analysis contains information such as the type, weight and purity of the drugs that were seized.

A lawyer for Mr White said defence would consent to the lengthy delay on the proviso his client would be granted bail.

Mr White was arrested in March after neighbours claimed they noticed a “chemical” smell from his Camden Park unit in Adelaide’s western suburbs and called police, who allegedly found a meth lab.

He was charged with one count of manufacturing a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug and one count of trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug. He is yet to enter a plea.

During his first court appearance, Magistrate Christopher Smolicz refused bail and described the allegations against him as “very serious”.

In an earlier hearing, police prosecution told the court chemists at the scene allegedly found 5kg of cooked meth.

It is alleged chemical ingredients capable of producing a further 15kg of methamphetamine were also located.

His wife Karina White was charged the next day with one count each of manufacturing a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug and trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

Ms White, 43, who also appeared at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday, was already on bail.

Mr White was granted bail by Chief Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal on several conditions, which include being unable to leave the state without the permission of the court and being prohibited from having a firearm.

The matter will return to court in June next year.
