A young man who fell to his death from a popular Adelaide rooftop bar has been remembered as a devoted brother, loving uncle and a selfless friend.
Mario Bacaj, 28, tragically died after falling from the 2KW Bar and Restaurant on King William St on Sunday afternoon.
His local soccer club – the Adelaide Eagles – paid tribute, saying his death had “left a void in our hearts”.
“Mario, we are so fortunate that we don’t need to resort to cliches to write this, because you were so beautiful,” the tribute read.
“To many, he was the friend of all friends, the guy who would drop everything for a laugh or a game. And yes, at the end of it all, he was our Eagles player, but to us, he was so much more.
“For those who didn’t know Mario, he was the guy who greeted you at his house with that cheeky smile, always pouring you a drink while conveniently forgetting to pour one for himself, as he didn’t really drink much outside of social occasions.”
The 28-year-old was remembered for his infectious laughter, always giving back to the club on and off the pitch.
“Mario was ever-present at the pitch, arriving early to set up nets and cheer on his teammates with unmatched commitment. Even if he wasn’t playing, he was there to support all of his teammates,” it read.
“Every time he stepped on the field, you could see his love for the game shining through.
“Rest in peace, dear Mario. You’ve brought us together more than ever before and made us realise just how fragile life is.
“Your memory will forever inspire us to cherish every moment, laugh a little harder, and love a little deeper.”
His former soccer club, the West Adelaide Raptors, also paid tribute.
“Mario was more than just a great player, he was a friend who was loved and respected by all at the club,” it read.
“You’ll always be remembered mate. May you rest in peace.”
His death is not being treated as suspicious.
2KW Bar and Restaurant also released a statement, saying they are “deeply saddened by the tragic events”.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected during this difficult time, especially the family and friends involved,” it read.
“This has been a heartbreaking experience for our team. The well being of our community remains our highest priority, and we are grateful for your support”.
