A FAMILY from Victoria has snapped up a beautiful and historic homestead and property in the western Toowoomba region for nearly $4 million.
The property, called "Cowarrie", was established in the early 20th century at Southbrook, 40km south-west of Toowoomba.
Colliers International agent Ben Forrest said the auction last month attracted considerable interest from potential buyers, with about six serious contenders vying for it.
"It sold on the day for $3.9 million," he said.
"(The buyers are) from interstate in Victoria and relocating to Southbrook.
"They were very happy - both sides were happy with the result.
"On the day, we had multiple bidders registered.
"Even up until the auction day, there were up to 50 enquiries."
The previous owners had held Cowarrie for about 16 years.
Mr Forrest said the 112-year-old homestead was in excellent condition, and the adjoining 500 hectares of land were still usable for farming.
"I think it was just the fact that it was ex-cultivation country and the quality of the house," he said.
"The country was cleared and it was a nice established Queenslander.
"It was well-maintained and you'd even mistake it for being a bit younger."
The original four-bedroom property was built in 1906, and features sweeping views of the Felton Valley as well as modern conveniences.
