A blistering opening quarter has set the Huonville Lions up with a second successive victory – and some revenge – as they outlasted SFL Community League rival Lindisfarne on Good Friday.

And it didn’t come easy after the Two Blues almost mounted a monster comeback.

Both the men’s and women’s SFL clashes were exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV. Watch the full replays above and below.

The Lions, knocked out of last year’s finals by the Two Blues, took a 13.17 (95) to 11.12 (78) win in a game with plenty of ebbs and flows.

They burst out of the blocks at Anzac Park, surprising the hosts and slamming on 6.5 to 1.4 to take a 31-point lead into the first break.

And the Lions were able to maintain that margin for much of the contest – until Lindisfarne woke up in the final term.

The Two Blues slammed on eight goals to the visitors’ one to come within 13 points but ultimately fall short thanks to their slow start.

Luke Graham bagged four goals for Huonville and Ethan Brock added three while Ryan Edmondson, Ryan Stocks and Sheldon Smith all slotted two for Lindisfarne.

In the women’s clash, Huonville bounced back from a disappointing opening round defeat to thump the Two Blues 11.6 (72) to 2.6 (18).

PREVIEW

There is plenty of feeling for the Huonville Lions when they take on Lindisfarne in a rematch of last year’s SFL preliminary final this Good Friday.

The Two Blues were able to hang on and claim a nine-point victory in that clash, making it their fourth win over the Lions in a row.

Both the men’s and women’s round two matches between the clubs at Anzac Park will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from 12pm on Friday.

Lions captain Liam Ward said his side has done some work on why they weren’t able to get the job done.

“We went down to them four times last year and we have identified what we need to work on against them,” Ward said.

“Maybe things we’ll change and that leads to a different result this week.

“More our defence at the moment, we couldn’t stop them moving the ball last year.

“Against other teams we were able to defend the ground well but against them it just wasn’t working and they were able to move the ball freely and we need to shut that down.”

The Lions are coming off a massive 10-goal win which was inspired by former Collingwood Brownlow Medallist and premiership player, Dane Swan.

More than 3000 people turned out to Huonville Oval to watch the 2011 Brownlow Medallist kick two goals in a final-quarter show of his skill level.

“It was a massive day for the club,” Ward said.

“To have 3000 to 4000 people there, massive, people through the door and function after as well.

“A lot of the young fellas really loved running out with someone like that, it is not everyday you get the opportunity to do that.”

Two Blues captain Ed Stanley said the game against the Lions would be won and lost in the middle.

“Any time you get to play the best teams in the competition you look forward to it,” Stanley said.

“We’ve built a bit of a rivalry with them over the years and playing Good Friday as well, can’t wait.

“These games against Huonville and the Cygnet types, they are always won in the middle, both sides are reasonably strong at both ends of the ground.

“So whoever controls the midfield battle is going to get on top and give their chance to win.”

Lindisfarne are coming off a 20-point victory over Dodges Ferry in round one and will now look to continue their winning streak.

“We are really optimistic in what we can do, we identified a few key areas on where we went down at the end of last year,” Stanley said.

“And we have tried to rectify those, we saw glimpse’s of those on the weekend and hopefully we can put more into action this weekend.

“It was a typical round one game, most boys were pretty much gone half way through the third quarter.

“It was really contested, it was hot, it was tough, the Dodges have really improved a lot on last year.

“In the end we took a lot out of it and took the four points and moved on.”
