OUR SAY: THE JACARANDAS are in bloom and school's out.

For thousands of students across Toowoomba, today is the last day of high school.

At some stage this morning they'll sing their school anthem one last time and they'll sign each other's uniforms - the things other graduating classes who went before them did as they try to take in the magnitude of the day.

It's a thrilling time for them and their parents; a time to celebrate an accomplishment and also a time when a little trepidation creeps in.

For 12 years life has largely been mapped out.

They studied and sat exams and one year led to another led to another.

Now they're responsible for the decisions they make, and those decisions will shape their lives.

A good number of students will leave Toowoomba over the coming months and move to Brisbane, interstate or overseas in search of work, study and adventure. (Though they won't believe it, some will make their way back in years to come.)

Seniors of 2017, Toowoomba wishes you well.

Stay safe. Be kind. Think big. Work hard. Be strong.
