It takes a great mechanic to be voted as the region’s best once, but one Toowoomba workshop has now claimed the title four times.

Mates Michael Telford and James Cornford first opened their business Toowoomba Total Mechanical in 2009, though the best mates have been working together on the tools for even longer.

“We were just a regular couple of knockabout blokes and were both mechanics working on the floor at another workshop,” Mr Telford said.

“We decided to go out on our own in late 2009, when I was 25 and James was 30, which is pretty amazing when you think about it now.”

Since these humble beginnings, the lads continued to expand their business and now employ five full-time staff members.

When The Chronicle recently asked the public to nominate the region’s best mechanic, the boys took out the number one spot for the fourth time.

After previously claiming the victory in 2016, 2017 and 2018, Mr Telford said the recipe to success was simple – great service, value for money and transparency.

“Our main aim is to look after our customers and always put them first,” he said.

“We’re really grateful for the support and hope to continue providing great customer service.”

The irony of the word Ford featuring in both their surnames has not been lost on the dynamic duo, but their expertise expands much wider than just the one make and model.

Servicing everything from Toyotas, Hyundais and Suzukis, Mr Telford said Subarus and Mazdas were some of the most common vehicles to enter their Toowoomba workshop.

Toowoomba Total Mechanics is at 128 Mort St.
