A PLAN by QIC to introduce paid parking at Grand Central has been backed by the state's major retail lobby group.

Cameron Meiklejohn is an analyst at the National Retail Association and said the introduction of managed paid parking was the best outcome for shoppers and businesses.

He said it meant customers would be able to access the stores in a streamlined way which would be more convenient for them and ultimately retailers would benefit.

"At the association we want to make sure that customers are given the easiest opportunity to shop which in turn helps businesses.

"This system will enable that."

Mr Meiklejohn said if customers weren't able to access the shops easily they would shop elsewhere.

"Ultimately it comes down to convenience and accessibility.

"We're supportive of developments that enable customers to have access to good quality safe streamlined parking systems."
