A 24-year-old man has made a bid for freedom after he allegedly exposed himself to two young girls in a popular Townsville shopping centre over the weekend.

Connor Xavier Worth appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday via video link from the watch house after he was charged with indecent exposure to a child under the age of 16.

No pleas have been entered for those charges.

It is alleged in Castletown shopping centre, Mr Worth exposed his penis to an eight year old girl in Toy Mate before moving to Big W and exposing himself to another eight year old girl.

Police Prosecutor Nathan Smith opposed the Pimlico man’s bail application as he had demonstrated an escalation of previous “sexually deviant” offending.

He argued there weren’t sufficient conditions they could put in place to ensure he wouldn’t repeat the “brazen” offences.

Mr Smith said any charges which involve sexual offences against a child means the person must serve actual time in jail so Mr Worth was “not at risk of serving too much custody”.

Defence lawyer, Joseph Byrne, argued there were sufficient supervisions which could be put in place to minimise the risk of Mr Worth reoffending including no unsupervised time with children and a ban from Castletown shopping centre.

He also said the CCTV footage of him allegedly committing the offences is yet to be obtained, so the evidence against Mr Worth is incomplete.

However Mr Smith specified the crown’s case doesn’t solely rely on CCTV footage, but also witness statements.

Magistrate Susan Warrington said she was satisfied the conditions proposed by the defence would minimise the risk of Mr Worth reoffending.

She granted Mr Worth bail under the conditions he reports to police once a week, he must not have unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 16 and he cannot attend Castletown shopping centre.

His matter is listed for a committal mention on July 4, 2025, in Townsville Magistrate Court.
