IRISH musician and former X Factor Australia judge Ronan Keating made a surprise appearance at the It's A Bloke Thing fundraising lunch at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport yesterday.
The event, now in its ninth year, raised a record $2,049,600 for the It's A Bloke Thing foundation, which provides care for people with prostate cancer, awareness programs and funds research into the disease.
"A charity like this is so important," Keating said.
Keating (right) donated his time for free after learning about the lunch from his wife's aunt.
About 500 people filled the Wellcamp Airport terminal for the It's A Bloke Thing lunch yesterday.
The event's chairman Michael Hubbard said it had been another successful year for the annual event, now in its ninth year.
He said it was great to have Ronan Keating perform at the event.
"We've created a very strong brand around prostate cancer and the funds that we raise here, we're able to then work with people and I think that the community just really enjoys that and really gets behind our charity.
"So with that, people like Ronan are wanting to become involved, which is really good."
Mr Hubbard said funds from the event would go towards three things - research, care and education.
"We fund research programs in Queensland, we provide prostate cancer care nurses, to Toowoomba, Darwin, and soon to be at the Gold Coast." Mr Hubbard said.
"We also have our own in in-house education road show, the travels around rural Queensland to educate men around their prostate health."
