Range Crossing team constructs bypass exit, entry points

THERE are six main entry and exit points for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and Nexus has released information on how construction on each interchange is progressing.
The Warrego Hwy east interchange is the eastern gateway. To build it, workers are:
- Constructing a bridge over the Warrego Hwy at Helidon Spa, with two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes, enabling motorists to enter and exit the bypass
- Realigning a section of the Warrego Hwy to ensure motorists travelling from Toowoomba to Brisbane are not impacted by the Range Crossing
Workers are working on: Earthworks, centre median and pavement works, barrier construction and bridge works.
The Mort St interchange is being constructed at the northern end of Mort St at Cranley. Designed for local access, the interchange is being built to handle B-doubles. Works involve constructing:
- Three roundabouts, with a network of new roads connecting to the Range Crossing, Mort St, Baillie Henderson Hospital and Hermitage Rd (complete)
- Two on-ramps, enabling motorists to access the bypass in both directions
- Two off-ramps, enabling eastbound and westbound motorists to exit the bypass
- A bridge, carrying the Range Crossing over Mort St and the rail line
- Realigned entrance into Baillie Henderson Hospital off Mort St (complete)
- A 1.1km long road, connecting Hermitage Road to the Toowoomba Waste Management Centre, providing access for commercial vehicles (complete)
Workers are working on: On and off-ramp construction within the Range Crossing's alignment and bridge works.
A grade separated interchange is located at the northern end of Boundary St at Cranley. Intended for industrial access, this interchange is designed for type one road trains and does not include access for eastbound motorists exiting the road bypass, or westbound motorists entering the road bypass.
- An on-ramp, enabling eastbound motorists access
- An off-ramp, enabling motorists travelling west on the bypass to exit onto Boundary St
- A two-lane bridge, taking Boundary St over the Range Crossing (complete).
Workers are working on: Building the interchange on and off-ramps within the alignment.
The Warrego Hwy west interchange at Charlton has been designed for type one road trains. It involves constructing:
- Two on-ramps, enabling motorists to access the Range Crossing in both directions
- Two off-ramps, enabling eastbound and westbound motorists to exit
- A bridge, taking the TSRC over the Warrego Hwy (complete)
- Two signalised intersections to allow road users to safely turn in and out
- One signalised intersection for Nass Rd and Wirth Rd to allow access to the new Nass Rd truck decoupling area
Workers are working on: Upgrading a section of the Warrego Hwy, on- and off-ramp construction, the new Nass Rd truck stop, constructing the Nass Rd and Wirth Rd intersections.
The Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road interchange at Wellcamp features sweep paths designed for type one road trains.
It serves as a connection point to the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.
A 1.1km long section of Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd is being upgraded to accommodate the new interchange. This is set to kick off in the coming months. Works involve constructing:
- Two on-ramps, enabling motorists to access the bypass in both directions
- Two off-ramps, enabling eastbound and westbound motorists to exit the Range Crossing
- A three-span bridge, with one lane in each direction taking the road bypass over Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd (complete)
- Two signalised intersections to allow road users to safely turn in and out of the bypass
Workers are working on: Preparing to build ramps and upgrade Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd.
The western most point of the TSRC is the Gore Hwy interchange at Athol. Works involve constructing:
- One on-ramp, enabling eastbound motorists to enter the TSRC
- Two single-lane off-ramps, enabling motorists to exit onto the Gore Highway in both directions
- A single-span bridge, with one lane in each direction taking the westbound off-ramp over the Gore Hwy (complete)
- Two six metre high retaining walls and embankments, on either side of the Gore Highway, to support the single-span bridge.
Workers are working on: Preparing to construct the interchange.
