THE Range section of the Warrego Highway is the first thing you see as you enter Toowoomba from the east. And your last memory as you leave.
Discarded soft drink cans, food wrappers and empty bottles accumulating roadside is not an image that gels with the Garden City.
And it doesn't reflect well on how much we care for the bushland around us.
The Department of Main Roads is responsible for clearing the rubbish, and together with the Toowoomba Regional Council, their efforts are focused on picking up litter ahead of the Carnival of Flowers each September.
But the infrequent clean ups aren't enough.
A little attention at the start of spring doesn't stop the Range from looking downright dirty for most of the year.
We acknowledge that it's a dangerous, difficult and expensive job keeping the road clean, but Main Roads, please step up the patrols.
As a side note, hats off to the Withcott Litter Patrol crew. And our heartfelt thanks for the work you do. Please know that your efforts are appreciated.
