The Whitsundays will soon have a new GP practice and pharmacy with a development application getting the green light from council.

Bowen Property Investments, a company directed by LiveLife Pharmacy Group Cannonvale pharmacist Lee McLennan and LifeLive Pharmacy Group CEO Clint Coker of the Sunshine Coast, has approval to redevelop the property at 37 George St in Bowen.

BPI purchased the former furniture store in March last year from Thi Dang Vy Huynh, who had previously applied to Whitsunday Regional Council to turn the property into four units.

Documents lodged to the council show BPI will instead split the 337sq m building into a GP practice with seven consult rooms as well as a day surgery with three beds plus a pharmacy.

It is anticipated the redevelopment will become the new location for the current LiveLife Pharmacy in Bowen just down the road at 16 Gregory St.

The project details at least nine car parks including one for an ambulance and another for persons with a disability and speed bumps will be installed in the entry and exit lanes.

Mr McLennan and his partner Michelle McLennan, also a pharmacist, said they moved to the Whitsundays in 2011 to “escape the hectic lifestyle of city life in Brisbane”.

“Over the time we have been pharmacy owners we have seen many changes to the pharmacy landscape … every time you enter our store, it is our goal that you have an interaction and an opportunity to speak with one of our pharmacists on duty,” they posted to their LiveLife Pharmacy Cannonvale Facebook page.

“Lee is originally from a small cattle grazing community in southwest Queensland called Charleville, and Michelle is from Ayr in North Queensland.

“Coming from small regional communities often impacted by record breaking drought, and in North Queensland, tropical cyclones, we know the importance of supporting our community that supports us.”

The Whitsunday Times phoned Mr McLennan to ask for more details about the GP practice but he declined to comment and so it is a watch this space moment for now.

Mr Coker owns several properties in the Whitsundays including three commercial lots along Shute Harbour Rd in Airlie Beach and three homes, alongside his two units in Port Douglas.
