Investigations are ongoing after a blaze destroyed a car in the early hours of Monday morning.
Friends of the car owner took to Facebook to share images and footage of the incident at Usher Rd, Mount Julian in hopes they could “get the scum caught”.
After a police spokeswoman told this masthead “investigations deemed the fire non-suspicious”, the Whitsunday Times asked how that would square with the video footage which shows a person entering and leaving the property around the time of the fire.
This masthead also asked whether they had received the footage, whether they believed the man in the video was not at all involved, and when the decision to rule the fire as non-suspicious was made.
“Initial information deemed the fire as non-suspicious however upon further investigation the matter is ongoing,” the police spokeswoman said.
“Forensic officers have attended the scene for further investigation.
“Review of CCTV vision indicates an unknown male has entered the premises however does not approach the vehicle.
“Investigations also indicate, there was significant time period between the sighting of the person entering and exiting the property before the fire occurring.”
Friends of the vehicle owner urged anyone with information to contact police.
