Whitsunday police will be out in force at an Airlie Beach festival after a busy week dealing with violent, disorderly behaviour.
Senior sergeant Nathan Blain encouraged anyone attending the Great Barrier Reef Festival over the weekend to “Have a good time, but do it responsibly”, warning anyone that chooses not to: “You will face the consequences”.
Senior sergeant Blain said police arrested and charged 10 people in the Airlie Beach night-life precinct on Friday, July 30.
Most of the charges related to violent or disorderly public nuisance offences, resisting arrest,
or disobeying ‘move on’ directions.
Senior sergeant Blain said it was disappointing to see such behaviour continuing despite police efforts to improve safety in the area known as the ‘Safe Night Precinct’.
He asked locals and tourists alike to take responsibility for their actions and think about the impact on others.
“Unfortunately, people get caught up in the moment and don’t know when to stop, and people get hurt.”
