The best of the Whitsundays' fresh produce and local hospitality will be broadcast to the nation in a new Channel 7 lifestyle series hosted by two Queensland reality stars.

Winners and crowd favourites of the 2013 series of culinary competition My Kitchen Rules, Dan and Steph Mulheron have spent the past week in the Whitsundays, checking out the region's restaurants, resorts, and farms, and cooking up a storm on camera using local ingredients.

The footage will form an episode of the new five-part series Travel and EAT with Dan and Steph coming to Saturday afternoons on Channel 7.

Locations featured in the dedicated Whitsundays episode include the Airlie Beach Lagoon, and Bowen's Horseshoe Bay Resort, Grand View Hotel, and Phantom Produce.

Though not too far away from the couple's hometown of Hervey Bay, Steph said there was a distinctive feel about the Whitsundays that made it a great option for a family getaway, especially with overseas holidays off the cards for now.

Travelling with their six-year-old daughter Emmy, the couple had been "blown away" by the friendliness of residents and the quality of the fresh produce on offer.

"Everyone is so humble and real, but what really blows our minds is how much produce is actually grown in the Bowen region and distributed across Australia," Steph said.

"It's this little town no one really knows about, except for the mangoes, but we really take our hats off to the farmers who produce so much of the food we consume."

Food highlights for Steph had been a delicious seafood platter from Fishi in Airlie Beach, eating tomatoes straight off the vine at Bowen's Stackelroth Farms, and going fishing with her brother, a Bowen coral trout fisherman.

Visiting the Whitsundays for the first time, she said it was "even more stunning" than she thought it would be, and could not wait to share it with viewers.

"With everyone starting to miss international travel since COVID, the idea behind the show is to encourage people to travel locally," Steph said.

"We want to show what is produced in these beautiful regions and smaller towns that you don't always see on TV a lot.

"It's educational, it's a bit of fun, and it's showing people where their food comes from.

"It doesn't just come from a shelf, it comes from people who make their living from it."

The debut episode airs at 5pm on Saturday, June 19.
