Five-piece metalcore band SAME PAINS will be returning to their hometown to perform their first show in Townsville in nearly a year, celebrating their recent nomination for a Queensland Music Award (QMA).

Known for their high octane live shows, sporadic riffs and heavy breakdowns, SAME PAINS was nominated for a QMA in the heavy category.

Bassist Jaden Joslin said that this nomination was an immense win for regional music.

“This is a massive thing for us and huge for regional heavy music in general with recognition in the greater Australia scene,” Mr Joslin said.

“It is so rad that just a couple of blokes from Mackay and Townsville who love making music together have been given opportunities like this to represent our local communities.”

After being part of the line-up for prestigious Brisbane music festival BIGSOUND 2024, Joslin said the members were very excited for the band’s growth this year.

“Sometimes being so far regional from the metro areas, it can feel like we are on the back foot.”

“But over the course of the last year, the lines have blurred a lot and we are finding that people are looking North for quality music in all genres.

He said Townsville’s music scene has recently shown intense vibrancy with many new acts emerging.

“Townsville’s live music scene is honestly in the best spot it has been in for many years, with heaps of super young bands starting out and getting their first shows and older bands blurring the lines between the mega acts and local,” Joslin said.

“Local shows feel like big shows and the quality of music is insane.”

“It’s a big reminder that your favourite band starts as a local band, and your favourite song is one you probably haven’t even heard yet!”

SAME PAINS will be performing at Townsville’s Otherwise Bar with supporting acts SEDATIVE and ZUKO on Saturday, February 22 from 7pm to late.
