Two truck drivers killed in head-on crash just off Bruce Highway near Gibson Creek Bridge, Bloomsbury

Two people have been killed in a head-on crash just off the Bruce Highway. A rescue helicopter was called, but it was too late to save them.

Two truck drivers have been killed in a head-on crash just off the Bruce Highway in Bloomsbury, north of Mackay.

Police and paramedics were called to Bloomsbury, near the Gibson Creek Bridge just after midday.

A police spokeswoman said it was two rigid cane trucks involved, with the crash taking place on private property.

No identifying information has been released on the deceased.

The BMA CQ Rescue chopper landed at the scene, but it was too late for the drivers to be saved.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said both men were initially entrapped in their trucks, she said.

The BMA CQ Rescue chopper landed at the scene, but it was too late for the drivers to be saved.

Bloomsbury is less than an hour south of Airlie Beach.

Earlier on Monday, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a truck on the Peak Downs Highway southwest of Mackay near the South Walker Creek Mine.

That was the second fatal motorcycle crash in the region in just days.

Jofarn Tapim, 27, was killed in a crash with a cow wandering on the road in Glenella, Mackay in the early hours of Sunday.

His current partner Phoebe Robinson, who is pregnant with his child, shared an emotional tribute about Jofarn, describing him as “my one, my world”, with a collage of photos of them and their unborn baby.
