It has been open for less than a month but Bowen’s newest veterinary clinic is already busy performing life saving surgeries and tests clients once travelled great distances to access.
Dr Jason Mansfield’s new mixed practice on Leichhardt Street caters to animals big and small, which means Bowen clients no longer need to make the 70km trip south to Proserpine or 110km north to Ayr to access a full variety of veterinary services.
Since opening on June 1, Dr Mansfield and his team at Greater Whitsunday Vet Services have performed a range of procedures in their brand new surgical theatre - from desexing to emergency interventions.
Facilities include an in-house blood machine, x-ray machine, and separate dog and cat wards.
There is still more to do to achieve Dr Mansfield’s ultimate vision for the clinic, but the lifelong Mackay/Whitsunday local has been thrilled with the community’s response so far, saying it has only reinforced his decision to permanently set up shop in Bowen.
Having grown up in the region, Dr Mansfield is well acquainted with the challenges faced by its pet and property owners, and is excited to bring the region care that is responsive to and supports the local community.
In addition to the clinic, Dr Mansfield and the team provide a mobile service to help property owners who often face great challenges remotely.
“Whether it be stitching up horses at the local polo cross state carnival or driving around the Whitsunday district using the new pregnancy scanner and bull testing equipment to help find early fertility issues before they become a problem - helping animals and their people get through some of the hardest times is why we do what we do,” Dr Mansfield said.
The clinic staff are keen to get to know those in the Bowen community they have not yet met, so they have organised a grand opening celebration for this Saturday, June 26.
Take your pet and enjoy a free sausage sizzle, jumping castle, face painting, balloon animals, giveaways and more from 11am to 3pm.
