Bowen State High School: Teens suffer burns in cooking class

Two girls have been taken to hospital following an incident at Bowen State High School.
Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed that two teens had been transported to Bowen Hospital following the incident in a classroom about 11am.
A QAS spokeswoman said she was unable to provide any clinical details about the extent of the injuries.
Initial reports from the scene indicated that the victims had suffered scalding injuries from hot water to their faces during a cooking class.
Queensland Fire Department did not attend.
The Department of Education confirmed that two students from Bowen State High School were injured during a “hospitality practices class”.
“School staff acted quickly to provide first aid and the Queensland Ambulance Service was called to transport the students for medical treatment,” a spokesperson said.
“The school will provide support to the affected students and their families, and guidance officer support is available at the school to anyone who may require it.”
The department said its “highest priority remains the health and safety of students and staff”.
“No further details can be provided for student privacy reasons.”
