It was a close contest in the race to be crowned Warwick’s cutest dog for 2021, with more than 150 adorable pups battling it out for the title.
Nala the boxer has come out on top of the pack with a massive 26.1 per cent of votes, closely followed by rescue pup Prince and Willow the border collie with 17 and 14.2 per cent of votes respectively.
Owner Shontelle Harvey said she and partner Chris McLaughlin began searching for Nala after losing their previous dog to cancer, but it took two-and-a-half years to track down their family’s perfect pet.
“There’s boxers around Warwick, but no one really has puppies. We picked Nala up from Kingaroy -we had a male boxer out at Chinchilla we were going to look at, but we really wanted a female,” she said.
“She’s very sweet and absolutely loves cuddles, she always has to be around.”
Ms Harvey said eight-month-old Nala was full of energy and had a love for water and the outdoors, and was always ready for her morning walk or car trips with the family.
She said their beloved pup had formed an especially strong bond with her five-year-old son Kobi and the pair were rarely separated at home.
“They’re best friends! She sleeps with him every single night and wherever he is, she’s not far behind,” she said.
“If he’s watching a TV show, she’s right there beside him. They have the best bond ever, and she’s very protective of him.
“When kids are around, she loves them and just goes loopy. With adults, she’ll jump all over us and everything, but when kids are around she’s so gentle and just puts one paw up to shake their hand.”
