A major regional healthcare centre has been hit by a ‘crypto virus attack’ with customers urged to remain vigilant. Here’s what you need to know.

A Southern Downs healthcare centre has reportedly become victim to a ‘malicious’ crypto virus cyber attack, with customers urged to stay vigilant in the wake of the security breach.

In documents received by this publication, Warwick Smiles Dental Clinic alerted customers that late last year it was involved in a “crypto virus attack” on their computer systems.

In the statement released by the dental clinic, they said they had taken “immediate action to address this unfortunate situation” following an evening cyber attack in October 2023.

The clinic said it was alerted to the hack a day after, and reported it to authorities immediately.

Warwick Smiles Dental Clinic has reportedly been hit by a cyber attack, warns clients to stay vigilant.

“We want to emphasise there was no evidence to suggest any data was stolen or shared during the attack, rather it appears our systems were blocked,” the clinic wrote in a letter to customers.

“Based on our investigation, we understand that information that may have been affected includes; name, residential address, date of birth, phone numbers, dentals records and Medicare card details.”

The company says since the attack they have implemented additional enhanced security measures and are taking all necessary steps to maintain the highest level of data security.

“We recommend you remain vigilant against any suspicious activity such as emails or phone calls requesting personal information. Warwick Smiles will never request sensitive information via email or phone.”

Warwick Smiles Dental Clinic has been approached for comment.
