A Warwick man will spend Christmas behind bars after allegedly fleeing police while in possession of loaded weapons and drugs on Sunday night.
The man, aged 30, came to the attention of Warwick police after reports that the man and a second offender had threatened the occupants of an address at Bunker Ave with firearms on November 26, a Warwick Criminal Investigation Branch detective confirmed on Wednesday.
Police then observed a vehicle of interest believed to have the man on Albion St, which was intercepted by officers on Albert St.
The vehicle had two persons inside, and after a search of the vehicle, nothing was located.
The man emerged from hiding and allegedly ran off from police.
With police in pursuit, the man tried to hide in a garden bed where police quickly caught up with him.
Police will allege a backpack was found nearby the man, which contained two sawn-off shotguns, one of which was loaded, and drug paraphernalia.
One of the firearms was identified to have been stolen from a property at Leslie Dam in 2021.
The man was charged at Warwick watch-house with a string of offences, including two charges of possessing a shortened firearm in a public place, going armed to cause fear, receiving, two charges of common assault and four charges of contravening a domestic violence order (aggravated).
The man is yet to enter a plea to any charges, and it is understood the two latter charges were unrelated to the alleged offending incident on Sunday.
He will be remanded in custody at until his next court date on January 24, 2024.
