The Warwick Cowboys have announced they’ve received almost half a million dollars to rebuild and repair their club following a tough few years.
The Cowboys revealed they have been granted $494,610 from the Queensland Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport and already have key upgrades in mind to make their club bigger and better.
Warwick Cowboys president Dayne Barrett said the money would be used to fix and maintain the clubhouse and field, including measures to drain the field in times of flooding.
“It’s been a bit of a lifeline, coming through years of Covid and flooding, the energy gets pulled out of you a bit, it’s been a big boost to everyone’s enthusiasm,” Barrett said.
“There’s been a lot of work to get here, lots of hours to get all the quotes done, and it goes down to the work Justin Nolan put in.”
The funding comes as the Warwick Cowboys prepare for a big 2023 season, with the recent appointment of experienced coach Colin Speed helping to put a focus on the future.
Speaking to the Warwick Daily News, Barrett said the club would be focusing on facilitating junior talent to eventually get them in the A-grade and reserve teams.
The Warwick Cowboys will begin their pre-season prospective training on Thursday.
