A loving ginger cat dumped by his family more than five years ago is on the hunt for a new forever home after being rescued by a good Samaritan.
The affectionate feline had been hanging around the Warwick dump for those years and reliant on food left by kind-hearted visitors.
That was until he was rescued this week.
Shirley van Kan said she often made trips to the Warwick dump but thought the cat, who is fittingly named Tip, lived nearby.
Ms van Kan said when she started asking questions about Tip’s home, she was told he was left at the dump by his owners before they left town.
“He hung around (at the dump) for a day and I thought that will be the end of that, but then he came back looking worse for wear,” she said.
Ms van Kan said his scruffy appearance made her realise he was not being cared for and had nowhere else to go.
But Tip’s friendly nature had seen those visiting the dump stopping for a cuddle or two.
Won over by the cat’s sweet charm, Ms van Kan said he was determined to help find Tip a new family and started the slow process of building trust with timid Tip.
“It got to the point where he would let me catch him so I could warm him,” she said.
Ms van Kan said she reached out to rescue group Southern Downs ARK to see if they would help find Tip a worthy home.
“If I didn’t already own cats, I would have adopted him, he’s so friendly.”
Anyone interested in adopting Tip should contact Southern Downs ARK via email at info@southerndownsark.com.au.
